Find Your Way - Level 4 (SATB with Piano, Guitar, Bass & Drums)

This wonderful song by singer-songwriter Alison Wedding was released in 2019 on her album “On the Brink” (available on Spotify). I was drawn immediately to the lyric story which was simple and relatable, as well as to the chord progression that felt fairly “standard” and yet fresh at the same time.

The arrangement features either one or two soloists with a stripped-down bass only accompaniment at the beginning, then adds more rhythm section and finally the full vocal ensemble as it launches into an infectious swing feel, with plenty of room for improvisation over the delicious chord changes!

The primary challenge of the piece is the melodic rhythm (lots of triplet subdivision!). For this reason, I strongly recommend that you listen (click HERE!) to the original recording to hear Alison’s phrasing and the general rhythmic flavor of the song (as well as her terrific improvised solo!). I tried to capture her rhythmic feel as closely as I could while making it singable by an ensemble, but there’s no question that hearing her recording will make the chart-reading more accessible!
